Detail ●”Mameitagin” was a silver coin circulated during the Edo period (1601-1865).

 

This Genbun Mameitagin was minted for 82 years (1726-1818). Double-sided Daikoku in this era were usually minted around 3-5 grams, and it is extremely rare if it over 6-10 grams.

●Daikoku seems to have been playing the role of Santa Clause in the Japan!!!

“Daikoku” is known as “God of Wealth” in Japan. Japanese people’s faith in Daikoku since the Edo period and their trust appears on the currency “Mameita-Gin”.

Daikoku is a fat beard men who carry a huge sack on his shoulder. Inside his sack has full of treasures and distribute the fortune out from the sack to other people. His appearance and behavior are extremely similar with Santa Clause!
